Campo Las Palmas

San Antonio Guerra, Dominican Republic

In 2017, Janet Marie Smith represented the Los Angeles Dodgers for a comprehensive architectural transformation of the club’s training academy in the Dominican Republic, Campo Las Palmas. With oversight of master planning, building design, and project execution, Smith helped lead strategic design thinking to transform the complex, originally built in 1987 and comprised of four structures. After the work was completed, the complex expanded to seven buildings through extensive renovations of existing spaces and construction of three new larger structures which doubled total square footage to nearly 100,000 across all 10 buildings.

The revamped complex now accommodates 96 players, 19 coaches, and support staff, featuring upgraded training facilities, classrooms, a quiet room, and social areas. A third playing field and a new half field were also added to the site. The project integrates historical tributes to Dodger greats and added several new facilities including the Jackie Robinson Hall and a new community field. In addition, the complex focused on a commitment to nutrition through an enhanced kitchen and dining hall fueled by a fruit and vegetable garden that showcases a harmonious blend of tradition and modern functionality.
