Canopy served as an extension of Major League Baseball’s Global Events team to oversee all front of house operations for MLB at Rickwood Field: A Tribute to the Negro Leagues. Working with MLB Staff, event production partner, and architectural planning partner, Canopy Team members programmed and coordinated various elements of event operations including concessions, retail, sponsorship, staff training, transportation, and fan area layouts.
Canopy was responsible for overseeing the programming of the Fan Plaza, which expanded the ballpark footprint and featured a series of historic displays, unique sponsorship activations, live entertainment, local concessions options, social areas, and a main retail location. Canopy collaborated with the MLB Brand Design and MLB Photography teams on the development of content for historic displays in the Fan Plaza, celebrating the stories of the Negro Leagues through photography and custom illustrations balanced with modern fonts and colors.
As fans entered the gates of the 1910 Rickwood Field, they were transported back to the Negro Leagues era through a series of signage, photos, and look-in museum displays featuring artifacts from the Negro Southern League Museum, the Friends of Rickwood, and other local collectors. Canopy Team members turned existing ballpark spaces into interactive exhibits and photo moments to tell the stories of the many iconic players and teams that came through Rickwood. Canopy worked with MLB Staff and partners to make sure fans had a memorable experience as they enjoyed a game at the oldest professional baseball park in America.
