As a Managing Director at Canopy Team, John Whitty leads a team of project managers on facility and venue projects from initial visioning through design, construction, and operations. He leads Canopy’s college sports practice, having served as advisor to the University of Pittsburgh and University of Florida. John manages several client relationships and from 2024-25 was the owner’s representative for Diamond Baseball Holdings’ and Hub City Spartanburgers for the development of Fifth Third Park.

John joined Canopy Team after a career in construction project management and operations in the professional sports, college athletics, and commercial real estate industries. John served as Senior Stadium Project Manager for Krause Group where he led project feasibility and conceptual design stages for USL Soccer’s Pro Iowa. Prior to that he was a development and construction project manager for Equinox, overseeing club buildouts in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Chicago. John started his career at the University of Notre Dame where he was the first Director of Operations for Notre Dame Softball, managing the team’s logistics and partnerships with the NCAA, the Atlantic Coast Conference, ESPN, and the ACC Network. John also oversaw Notre Dame’s premier athletics annual-giving scholarship program and assisted in capital project planning and fundraising.

A native of Des Moines, IA, John received an M.B.A. from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and a B.A. in Political Science from Notre Dame in 2010, where he was a Student Manager for their football and softball teams. When he’s not bringing his dog, Greta, to the office, you can usually find him with a good book, reserving tables at any local trivia night, or kayaking along Baltimore’s amazing waterfront.
