Canopy Team worked closely with MLB internal departments, Bristol Motor Speedway, and other event production and planning partners on the historic Speedway Classic event in Bristol, TN. This unique event drew over 90,000 fans to the venue, breaking the MLB regular season attendance record and creating a special experience for all fans who came out to watch the first Major League Baseball game ever to be played in Tennessee. Canopy Team members acted on behalf of MLB’s Global Events team to oversee many operational elements of the event, which included devising and managing an event tracker and leading regular stakeholder meetings to ensure all aspects of the event were organized and shared over a year of planning.

Canopy served as the primary point of contact for MLB on all non-ticketed events during Speedway Classic week, and for all operations surrounding the pre-game concert hosted in the Infield Plaza. Canopy also advised the Global Events team on the build out of the playing field, in addition to working with the MLB Sponsorship team on all partnership activations, promotions, and gate giveaways. Canopy also worked with Bristol Motor Speedway on event staff planning, including staff placement, uniform ordering, training, and overall logistics.

Leading up to event day, Canopy worked with the MLB Design team on creating and overseeing the installation of fan facing directional signage, venue maps, and sponsorship signage, in addition to helping MLB’s Marketing and PR team craft website and email content to share pertinent event information with fans before they arrive at the venue. During the event, Canopy managed the vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow on and off the infield track and supported the operations and access for in-game entertainment elements.

When the Speedway Classic game was delayed and eventually postponed to the next day due to inclement weather, Canopy worked with MLB, Bristol Motor Speedway, the venue concessionaire (Levy), and other partners to make sure the venue was ready to welcome fans back for a second consecutive day to finish out the game and leave fans with a memorable experience.
